What is High-Fructose Corn Syrup?

High-Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) is a very sweet syrup derived from corn and is cheaper to make than sugar. Most corn in this country is a GMO (Genetically Modified Organism), so you know that is not a good thing. It is also sweeter and more addicting than sugar. Diabetics should steer clear of HFCS.

Processed foods are loaded with it. In fact, when you begin to read food labels you see it listed everywhere.  Eating these types of “foods” make you hunger for more and then you eat more. Too much HFCS and sugar can lead to inflammation, unwanted weight gain, and various disease states. Again, read your food labels!

It was reported in the News at Princeton, “When rats are drinking high-fructose corn syrup at levels well below those in soda pop, they’re becoming obese — every single one, across the board. Even when rats are fed a high-fat diet, you don’t see this; they don’t all gain extra weight.” It is a healthier notion to cut back on sugars of any type, especially HFCS.
